Lainé F et al., Hepatology 2017 (bloodletting in dysmetabolic iron overload syndrome)

PMID 27685251

Randomised controlled trial in France: 274 people with dysmetabolic iron overload syndrome, one year of bloodletting aimed at keeping ferritin below 50 µg/L versus lifestyle and dietary advice alone. The treated group finished at a mean ferritin of about 71 µg/L; fasting glucose and liver tests did not improve, and fatigue was more common with bloodletting.
